I have the following setup components:
- Huawei SmartAX MT882 modem from BSNL dataone broadband
- Netgear wireless router WGR614v7
- Windows XP desktop (P4, 3.2GHz)
- Windows XP laptop (Intel centrino M 1.8 GHz)

My connection/configuration works fine from the modem directly to the desktop/laptop. I am able to access internet. Now, I need to connect the modem to the wireless router so that I can surf the net from both laptop and desktop. I am not able to do it.
I have tried the following, but these do not work:
- tried the Netgear wizard setup
- tried the steps exactly as in:
http://www.indiabroadband.net/bsnl-broadband/127-making-bsnl-dataone-wireless-home-network-guide.html
- tried myself to configure the modem and router with no luck

Can anyone help in this regard?

I am sure if you would have posted this question at http://www.indiabroadband.net your problem would have been sorted out by now but I dont see your post in that thread.

I am the admin at indiabroadband.net and to be honest I believe that you missed a step or two from the tutorial as there is no reason why it wont work for you.If you describe the problem a little more it will be a bit easier to understand for everyone to reply and provide a solution.

i assume you are on cable Virgin Media service and you have actually got a Netgear WGR614 as far as i know you can just connect it up the way you say and it should work, but the key thing is the order in which to turn stuff on. from what i remember the cable modem logs onto Virgin via it's MAC address (no username/password needs to be entered, unlike what this Tech Guru is saying) normally if you have the modem on one PC it is fine, but if you swap cable modem from one PC to another, it has to be rebooted. if you're plugging in cable modem to the Netgear, the same kind of thing applies. i guess you should just power everything off, then power on the Netgear only. give it a minute, then power on the cable modem. the Netgear should then detect the cable modem and get the external IP address that the PC would ordinarily get if that were plugged straight into the cable modem. my own personal experience, i bought a Linksys wireless router for somebody and just plugged it into the cable modem and it worked straight away, the Netgear should do the same. if not there is the small chance the Netgear could be faulty so i guess you should contact Netgear about that.
