I want to use it for amateur observation. I am not science student, don't need it for any academic purpose. Just at home for use at nights sometime.

Generally, you should expect to spend at least $300 to get a telescope which isn't a piece of junk. $300 will get you a basic 6" Dobsonian reflector, which is the minimum I'd recommend. Get a larger aperture, 8" or 10", if you can afford it. There are lots of other designs out there, but years of helping beginners have shown that a small Dob is the best value. Buy from a telescope store, either local or online, and NOT from Wal-Mart, eBay etc., as all they sell is junk. Forget about goto unless you've got a lot of money to spend.

There are many types and options in telescopes - refractor, Newtonian reflector, or Cassegrain reflector; alt-azimuth or equatorial mount; manual or computer control. A telescope costs about as much as a television - anywhere from a tiny $100 cheapie, through a couple of thousand for a really big one, to many thousands for an elaborate setup with all the extras. Check out the link below for an introduction.

There are two types of telescopes: refracting and reflecting. Refracting uses a set of lenses and usually costs less. The downside is that the lenses themselves absorb a quantity of light. Reflective telescopes used a parabolic mirror to gather light and have less distortion, and can be much smaller lengthwise than a refractive. The do cost more though. I have both a refractive and a reflective telescope in my house and tend to use the reflective because of better image quality and more crispness.

there are 3 kinds of telescopes,,, reflecting, refracting and the catadioptric telescopes...if u want satisfying images and flexiblity, i recommend the latter. This telescope is a multi-functional telescope, you can use for astrophotography or just gazing to the night sky...you can connect it to a pc, with a firewire and dont 4get to buy a ccd for it...it has also a keypad for easy search for the coordinates, as well as your position, date and time...Their are two companies making this telescopes one is the MEADE...choose the lx90...buying this telescope is a serious business! it costs $1,890!
for more detailed specifications, go to google and type the telescope's brand and #...good luck!
