I agree with you completly, all of theese running QBs look good because they can make awesome plays with their legs.
But when its all said and done none of them have ever won a superbowl.
Sure it doesnt hurt to have some mobility, but i think QBs with too much just tend to run more than being a pocket passer.
Look at the recent superbowl winning QBs: Peyton Manning, Ben Rothlisberger, Tom Brady, Brad Johnson, Trent Dilfer and Kurt Warner.
All of thoose QBs are pocket QB!
so overall, my take on running QBs... I hate them!

The only rushing QB that has won the Superbowl was Steve Young...but he was kind of a rarity because he could also pass well. Most running QBs can't. John Elway started out his career as a running QB, but didn't win the big one until after he was older and had lost his legs...he became better after he was forced to stay in the pocket. Most running QBs won't make it to the big game...and the few that do usually don't win. A QB needs to keep a cool head and pass the ball for his team to be really successful. Rushing every other down doesn't do anything except make them more vulnerable to injuries.

Most running QBs never developed their throwing skills as much a pocket passer because if things got hard and they had to make a read, they took off. I would take a healthy Byron Leftwich over a Michael Vick any day of the week. That is why many running QBs from college are turning into WRs, ala Matt Jones, Ronald Curry, Hines Ward, the list goes on.

Running QBs are great college players but usually fail in the NFL. I'm not sold on Vince Young yet but we'll see. They have a tendancy to think run at the first sign of trouble and run for a few yards when they had a guy wide open they could have tossed to if they hadn't tucked the ball. I just don't think they'll ever win a Super Bowl, we'll see about Vince Young, he seems like he could have enough talent to concentrate on throwing more.

What do you mean by everyone loves to draft a running QB?
This year's draft, of the QBs taken in the first round, neither one is considered a running QB, and both had over 60% completion percentage last year in college.
Of the 3 QBs taken in the 1st round last year, only Vince Young would be considered a running QB.
So in the last 2 drafts, only 20% of the QBs taken in the 1st round are running QBs.

Quarterbacks are for passing. If you have an American League mentality that pitchers should only pitch, that is right. That is why there is a designated hitter. In football, there is a running back. Why am I saying these? Because I played as a DH in baseball, and RB in football when I had time for those. However, if you are Steve Young-type, that's very good.
Second, the running QBs underdevelop their passing skills because they are frequently using speed rather than their arms.
I think running QBs are good, as long as they will balance both skills in running and passing.

Running quarterbacks are great because they can make plays. If no one's open they can just scramble and pick up some yards or a 1st down or by the time they have finished running there's a receiver open down the field. Lets just see who you would choose if you had to decide with Letwich or Vick. If Leftwich's line cant hold the defense because he isnt a good scrambler things will get ugly. With Vick the worst thing that could happen is picking up a couple of yards with his raw speed. Yes Vick needs to air it out more but he has two weapons at his disposal: his throwing arm and his feet.

i think of those first around possibilities are over-rated. You forget that drafting interior the 1st around isn't something Jerry Angelo is stable at. Angelo is even if very stable at choosing up studs interior the third, 4th, or 5th rounds so i do no longer think of those 2 first around possibilities will harm the bears that lots. i could quite see them commerce 2 possibilities for a stud QB then draft yet another Rex Grossman interior the 1st around.

Steve Young won a championship. They like watching them because they don't know what's going to happen, the surprise factor. When your watching Manning or Brady, they have three choices on what to do. Either they hand the ball off, fake the hand off and throw, or they just drop back and throw. When you watch Vick, McNabb, V. Young dropping back they have seven or eight different choices to do. It's all about the options. Options create excitment.

How else do you compensate for big, slow and clumsy offensive lineman that can't block on a consistent basis. I never understood why the NFL teams draft these huge lineman who can't pass block worth a damn and wonder why their million dollar QB's keep getting hurt.
