No, in fact it was France that was invaded by Italy on June 10th, 1940. Mussolini and the Italians were hoping to acquire Nice, Corsica, French Somalialand, and Tunisia. France capitulated to the Germans on June 22nd, the Italians signed an armistice with Vichy France on June 24th.

France invaded Italy in the early 1800s when a young Napoleon lead French troops in to Italy. This, however, was back when the French actually fought. They surrendered to the Germans in 1940 and were, in effect, out of the war from that point until late 1944. Vichy French forces in North Africa actually fired briefly on US and British forces who were landing in North Africa, but they quickly surrendered (big surprise) to the Allies. Italy fought with the Axis until late 1944 when, having been over run by US and British forces, the new (non-facist) government changed sides and declared war on Germany. They too were largely out of the war by the beginning of 1944, and it was the German divisions that fought the Allies in Italy in '44.

... only in the sense that Free French forces (ie, French troops who left France in 1940 to join the British) fought against the Italians in North Africa and Italy. Because France surrendered in June 1940, these escapees did not represent the French Government, but they considered this government to have no moral authority. Other French forces fought for the Vichy (German collaborationist) government against the Allies, though they generally fought with very limited enthusiasm.

These divided loyalties created problems for France after the Vichy (German-sponsored) government fell, due to the animosity between the two groups.
