You could try to repair your copy of windows with the installation disk. Basically it re-installs windows without any loss of your personal files and settings.

If you are using windows xp, try to boot in safe mode. Then do a system restore to a day or two before the problem.
Or create a startup disk on another windows xp computer that works by going to http://www.bootdisk.com/

You need to have the disk for the operating system that was on it. If it was Win98, you get that disk- as you do not want to upgrade at this moment.
You need to put the disk in and restart your computer. It will look on Drive D and see the disk and ask you what you want to do (repair). or reinstall. Go for the repair first and let it do its number. It should take out what it needs.

With a prayer and some luck, a Windows Repair will help.

actually the best thing to do is ask BEST BAY to help you to re-install windows XP. THis is the easiest way to solve the problem and also will prevent any upcoming problem. I always do that to this type of problem.
