Why is everyone freaking out about December 21st, 2012?
I had someone telling me how he thinks the world will end in 2012 because the Mayans predicted it. I told him the Mayans said nothing about the world ending in their calenders and they simply just stopped making calenders because their civlization ended. It's not like they said "On December 21st, 2012, the world will end." Their descriptions are very vague and could fit virtually any event. It reminds me of Nostradamus. And how many times have we had these "end of the world" theories? Too many. December 21st is nothing more than the end to a period of time on the Mayan calender. I have even heard experts on the Mayan calender saying they don't believe anything will happen, either.

You are mostly right, except that the calendar isn't ending; they didn't "stop making calendars"--they actually never had a written calendar that laid out every day in advance like we do. It goes on forever, just like time does.
As far as why people are so excited, it's because their lives are boring and lack excitement. This gives them something exciting to talk about. Now I've seen that people are saying the I-Ching and Nostradamus also "predicted" 2012. It's a bunch of horse-poo, fabricated by those too lazy to do real research.

Well many Mayans believe in their beliefs, so they think the world is going to end on December 23, 2012. That is when their calender is supposedly supposed to stop. It's OK if you don't believe it, it is only that single religions belief.

People have been predicting the end of time since the beginning of time. No one knows for sure when the world will end.

It's actually December 23rd I thought but its in the book of Revelations and the mayans said so.

Wow I never heard this before, or I just never paid attention to people talking about it. Well if it does then it does....live it up for now and do what each person feel is right. Are people really freaking out?
