As far as shelter goes most large wild cats, tigers, lions and the like really do not use any. They depend more on plant cover or small rock outcrops for shelter rather than something like a cave. Smaller species of cats, pallas cats, snow leopard, etc tend to be more of a sound shelter cat (ie cave).

I am not sure what exactly you are looking for by their climate adaptation. All tiger species are known to pack on a few pounds and a heavy coat in the winter months, but that is really no different than any other animal that goes through spring, summer, fall, winter climate changes.

As far as how they are able to live in such a climate, like I said above, they pack on extra winter pounds (when food is around) and a heavier coat in cooler months.

With swimming it is more or less an instinct thing just like it is with all animals. Either a species goes near the water or they do not. Tigers just so happen to be a feline species that is one that loves water. Some species of tiger LOVE to swim and will spend a great deal of time in water where other species are more of a quick cool of or moment of play before they move on. Of course when a tiger enters the water for the first time there is a bit of adjustment... but to go near water is instinct.
