I am not as bad as some...but I still hate it. It gets really bad when I am stressed out, and I don't know why. I have to count my steps, count stairs, count ceiling tiles. There are alot of other things I need to do too. I just wish I had some help getting over my impulses. I haven't had it all my life though, only since my parents got divored a few years ago. But yes. Does anybody have any advice?

I myself have OCD and I've suffered from it for 7 years. Medicine is essential, if you aren't already on some time of medication I'd recommend you get on some as soon as possible. It wont eliminate your OCD, but it will make it much more tolerable.
Next, as hard as this sounds you have to show yourself. One day when you are feeling very powerful, you need to fight your obsessions. This is extermely hard, I know and it can make you feel like the world is ending. No matter what, DO NOT count. Even if your OCD is screaming to do so, even if this causes an emotional breakdown. At the time it may feel like you are going crazy, but stick with it.
As the hours pass, you'll notice your stress level go down from a 10 to 3 reliesing that your obsession holds no real power. Keep praticing this every day. And if you slip up don't beat yourself up about it, just get back on the train. Any of your obsessions or compulsions just contiune to do this.
If you do not feel like you can go through this on your own, go to a therapist who can watch over you as you confront your fears.
With this and medication your OCD should greatly descrease. I'm sorry to say you'll always have it, as I will, but it doesn't have to rule.
Hope this helps :)

Since you like counting you should become an accountant or work at a bank or anything working with things you have to count. Like a stockkeeper maybe something like that. I'm not making fun of you honestly. It's really tough when a person has a compulsive habit. Mine is eating.

Caution. Medication is not needed unless you really are in danger of really loosing it. Try some simple mental relaxation technics. The trauma of your parents separation may be a major factor in your OCD. Try a session with a natural methods therapist. Also develop positive friendships and activities.

OCD always gets worse when there is stress. It is why it develops in the first place. It keeps people from dealing with the emotion. There are meditation tapes you can get at healthjourney.com that will help with stress and coping. There are some good safe medications out there as well.

Always remember that YOU control YOU. Sometimes, you trick yourself into thinking that you're not in control of yourself, but remember that you really are.
