Not just one in my book - every top player has a different strength - and wouldn't be as good without the guys around him (except maybe Maravich). I have to go with a top 25 - in no particular order - and I only consider them to be a top player in college if they played at least 3 years - how do you know they are a top college ball player if they only played for a year - top means consistent every year:

Pete Maravich - LSU
Larry Bird - Indiana
Kareem Abdul Jabar - UCLA
Bill Bradley - Princeton
Wilt Chamberlin - Kansas
Tim Duncan - Wake Forest
Patrick Ewing - Georgetown
Danny Ferry - Duke
Eric "Sleepy" Floyd - Duke
Hank Gathers - Loyola Marymount
Elvin Hayes - Houston
Michael Jordan - North Carolina
Christian Laettner - Duke
Bob Lanier - St Bonaventure
Danny Manning - Kansas
Chris Mullin - St. Johns
Sam Perkins - North Carolina
Paul Pierce - Kansas
Oscar Robertson - Cincinnati
David Robinson - Navy
Bill Russell - San Francisco
Isaiah Thomas - Indiana
David Thompson - North Carolina State
Keith Van Horn - Utah
Jerry West - West Virginia

If you are a true fan of college basketball...how can you even think about just "ONE" greatest player. The fun every season is watching players develop, stay with their teams and get better every year. We don't see that a lot any more as players jump to the NBA after 1 or 2 years. But these guys...were great. Check out the link because stats wise...there are players that are good - and then players that get all the publicity - just like the NBA.

No doubt in my mind that it was "The Pistol" Pete Merivech. Averging around 45 ppg over his 3 year career at LSU while totally turning the program around. His career average ppg will probly never be touched. Also his single season ppg record will probly never be touched. He is also the leading scorer in college basketball history, even though he only played 3 years due to the mandatory freshman team policy the NCAA held.

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. He won 3 straight NCAA titles for UCLA. He was College Player of theYear in '67 and the first ever Naismith College Player of the Year in '69. The slam dunk was banned in college play because of his dominance of the game.

It's gotta either be Pete Maravich or Oscar Robertson. They were better in college than they were in the pros, and that's saying a lot considering how well they did in the pros.
