Saving a DVD to a computer is not operating system specific, you need some kind of software such as Nero Burning Rom to do this for you and a dvd drive, if you want to copy the dvd you will also need a blank dvd-r disk and a dvd-rw drive.

Use this sofware called AnyDVD by Slysoft. it will encode any dvd's into your HDD it even bypasses copy protectecd DVD's Excellent product I use it myself in cojuntion with Nero.
AnyDVD can be downloaded for FREE a 30 days evaluation to see if you like it then after that 30 days it'll be around $30.00 if you want to keep it or not its up to you.

Rip the dvd using ripping sooftware, then save to HD. If there is copyright proection, you may have issues

You will need a DVD ripper. Go to http://www.download.com and search for one of these.Some are free and some aren't.

well why dont you "open" the dvd drive instead of autoplaying and then copy the content into your harddisk.
