I rarely get scared by movies but I thought I was going to pee my pants during "Poltergeist." The only reason it scared me was because I've had this fear of clowns since I was little and there is this clown doll that comes to life. It didn't help that I was watching it in a dark room by myself at 2am.

Hi. There are a lot of movies that would fit that category but i think THE HOWLING (original )is pretty scary. It was one of the first werewolf movies of the 80's. And there is a scene where the villains' head gradually changes into a wolf and it takes about 5 minutes in the film to do this with unbelievable transformation inch by inch. All subsequent werewolf movies may have better effects but are over in a minute or two.

The Exorcist, without question. This film set the (very high) standard for all horror films to follow. Of course, I saw it when I was a teenager and that has something to do with my choice. However, as an adult I realized (while viewing the film in support of a film studies class paper I was writing), that the director's use of subliminal imagery at key scenes, heightened the "scare factor" even more so. Very scary stuff!

Everybody always says the Exorcist, but since I'm not religious that one has never affected me. The movie that stuck with me the most when I was a kid was probably Poltergeist.

The Hills have eyes-unrated version. It's much worse than the rated version.
