Your ISP can cap rates, cable has SHARED bandwidth, channel interference, but the biggest cause of slowdown is spyware, red flag software (AOell, Mysearch, Webshots, weatherbug, etc). If you use things like limewire or bearshare, you areprobably a server sending out as well as recieving, thus using up your ramm, processor and bandwidth (free music is NOT free). I'd clear my cache, and turn off all toolbars except one. If youre using IE7 dont use yahoo toolbar. Turn off google desktop (google internet search rocks, desktop blows). Someone else might be using your wifi, either put protection on or make sure your neighbor isnt downloadingmovies.

The channel problems and having an unsecured network connection mentioned by others are good things to check. If those don't work, I have had problems arise with my DSL connection and others have had problems with cable modem connections that can often can be resolved by restarting the modems and the wireless router. If that doesn't work you may have to call your cable or DSL provider and ask them to trouble shoot the line.

your wireless network works on a channel frequency. try logging into your wireless device and then change the channel to something between 6 and 11. if you have a cordless phone @ home, it can cause your wireless signal to drop, and cordless phones work on channels 1 through 5, so don't set your wireless channel to anything below 5.
