I believe it originated with Accountants. To never lose a penny, to always balance the books without error. Things like that. An unfailing Integrity.
In Semantics, the notion of 'Perfection' is absurd. A Matter of Taste. What is symetrical and beautiful to some, is only a tedious and uninspired eyesore to others.

Are you asking "where and when did the first ideas or notions about doing something different to obtain a result different than the other?
Were the earlier gene carriers of our species concious of metamorphing into something that could do a better job than before as we are concious that our activity is constantly perfecting? Probably not as we are.
So where and when did our species evolve sufficiently to harbor ideas of how and when we should insert ourselves into some activity so as to obtain a more perfect result?

Hi, I think the idea of "perfection" came about whenTV was invented. They always showed the mom at home making food, Jimmy comes in from play and Dad comes home from work and they are all happy. Its showed on the same way now. Only we have celebrities, who have all the money and this life that many desperately crave.

I think the idea of perfection came from GOD.
We were taught in school that God is perfect and that man were created in the image of GOD. Throughout the ages, man have been trying to perfect themselves so that they would be more like God.
Look at what we have done. Our ancesters had dreamt of flying and we are reaching further into space. We have dreamt of immortality and look at all of the things that we have done to make us look young, medical technology and products to repair our bodies and extend our lives, in the hope that we will not die at all eventually.
I think the image of God has found its way into our history book, and it is the root of perfection.
