Some people can have very low amounts of interaction with other people, and still feel comfortable around them. On the other hand, some people need to be in constant/moderate interaction to be comfortable around people.

Extroverts are those who replenish themselves by being with others, love parties, drop in friends etc. Introverts recharge by alone time. They need to have personal space, few intrusions and usually hate parties, chit chat, and have maybe one or two best friends. They prefer serious discussions about ideas, concepts etc. To most extroverts, a stranger is just a friend they haven't met yet.

"Please Understand Me II" breaks things down into 16 combinations and what professions are good matches for each one.
They seem pretty accurate to me.

some people feed offf of the attention they get from others while others are just OK keeping to themselves. I think a variety of factors such as culture, life experiences, birth order, gender, physical attractiveness, etc. have an influence on the level of social interaction a person "needs" in their life.

1) One group of people may have not gotten attention as children and look for attention by socializing. 2) Another group may have gotten lots of attention growing up and wanted to continue the attention getting, so they socialize. 3) Some people are comfortable in or out of crowds and may be balanced while growing up....
