Well, you ask a bunch of questions. The Mac should have a password when you turn it on. Addtionally, it should have the default file sharing turned off. So if that is the case, then even if they could get to your machine, they would need to know the username / password to access files. But, you could have a small program loaded on the machine called a backdoor or trojan. If that were the case, they could access files. But those programs are less previlant on Macs. Now, if you are sending files / retreiving / saving files across the network to a server, then it is possible for someone to "sniff" or accept packets of data on your sub-net if the files are not encrypted. This is impossible to prevent, but not very common either. So, if you use a personal firewall on your machine and keep your anti-virus software up to date and periodically run anti-virus scans, you should be good.

you're fantastic. the in basic terms Macs which have ever been hacked were in contests with web pages set up to get admission to exhibit vulnerabilities in some Mac software. maximum were corrected in software updates. There aren't any MacOS X viruses, any malware needs to be put in along with your admin password. in case you do not have a password on your Mac with a login call, now's the time to positioned one on. i might want to also propose you turn off report sharing contained in the sharing administration panel, and ensure your firewall is enabled contained in the safe practices or sharing administration panel.
