Four flask each contain 100mL of aq solutions of equal concentrations at 35C and 1 atm. KCI, CH3OH, Ba(OH)2, CH3COOH.

1. What soltuions are electrolytes?
2. Most acidic + basic?
3. First flask contains 74g of KCl. Calculate Molarity.
4. Second flask contains 30mL of CH3OH. Calculate percent volume/volume.
5. Calculate the grams of Ba(OH)2 in the third flask.
6. Which solution is most likely to react with an acid to form a salt and water?
7. Ba(OH2), CH3COOH, KCl- color of litmus paper? taste? color with Phenolphtalein?

1. All but methanol are electrolytes to varying degrees.
2. CH3COOH will be the most acidic, Ba(OH)2 the most basic. The other two solutions will be essentially neutral.
3. MW KCl ~ 74 g/mol, so the solution is 10 M (1 mole in 0.1 L of solution).
4. 30% methanol
5. Assuming the equal concentrations part, which is 10 M, there would be 1 mole, or 171.3 g of Ba(OH)2.
6. Ba(OH)2
7. KCl wouldn't turn either litmus paper, as it is neutral. CH3COOH will be red, Ba(OH)2 blue. CH3COOH has a sour taste, KCl salty, Ba(OH)2 would have a soapy taste (should you choose to taste it, which isn't smart). CH3COOH and KCl would be colorless with phenolphthalein, Ba(OH)2 would be pink.
