I use to ice skate quite well. I lived across from a river and my brother would shovel off a rink for us but could never get the hang of it backwards. Haven't iceskated in years. I recently introduced my oldest son to rollerskating after I hadn't been skating for about 15 yrs. When I was younger I could do the "duck" skate down by the floor while holding one foot in the air now I am too old I think for that. Can't rollerskate backwards either but I do OK for being one of the only older people there. The only time I fall is if one of those kids knocks me over but usually I still manage to keep my balance..........

Rollerskating, yes. I was a full-time rink rat in the 80's, and when I've taken my kids I found out that I can still do it almost as well as I could then.

Ice skating, I've never tried. There are no ice rinks close to me on the Gulf Coast. I don't think I would try anyway, my ankles are pretty weak. It never mattered on four wheels, but I think it would on one skinny blade.

I can rollerskate pretty well and only ice skated once but found I was almost as adept at ice skating as at roller skating. I skated for hours and the only time I fell was when someone ran into me and literally knocked my legs out from under me.

In 1960, I was learning to dance on roller skates, when the back wheels came off and I was this 92 lb. on the bottom of the pile. I broke my arm and it was twisted. It stills bothers me after all these years. Never got on roller skates again. Same goes for ice skates. I gave them to a friend of our daughter.

I can skate and iceskate FAST, but not particularly well. I can iceskate backwards, if someone is holding my hands skating forwards. My sisters and I are all on the far side of 40, and when the Olympics came to Atlanta, we went iceskating in Olympic Park over Christmas. Our children thought it was hilarious.
