Actually, leaving your computer on all the time has lower rate of failure. Just consumes alot more energy. They did a test on this already. Leaving the comp on actually makes it last longer.

No, it will not harm anything hardware wise, although I would be very surprised if Windows XP stayed up that long without reboot. True, fan will be running continuously, but the bearings used in today's fan are very stable, it will probably last just fine. Dust accumulation will not be a problem unless your house is particularly dusty. I have mine on 24x7 with periodic reboots for crash recovery and software installations/removals. Over the last 15 years with several computers, failures I had were never usage related. Many of the server class machines stay on 24*7*365 and fans used on those machines aren't made any different from home computers in most cases.

It is better to turn off the computer when it is not being used. If there is no reason to leave it on all the time, then you really need to turn it off. You will save some money on your energy bill. Turning the computer on and off does not harm your computer.

If you are not using the computer for a period of time you should turn it off. Keeping the computer on too long uses a lot of energy and can cause your computer to overheat. If you keep the internet on also, you are subjecting your computer to viruses and other bad things.

Rebooting is a good thing for the computer. You should turn it off overnight to get a fresh start in the morning.

Hope that helps!

yes, it will be bad not only for your computer but also to your house. When your computer overheated, it will cause a fire like what happened to my friends house. She left the house to buy something from the grocery leaving her computer on and when she came back her house was on fire already.

if you leave it on a blanket or soft surface the hot air gets trapped and the fans cant cool the circut boards and they can fry, so yes, but it's getting air and ciculation, no, but its a waste of energy.
