Buy a trap if you can't catch it yourself. The Humane Society charges about double what a cage actually costs. Don't buy one at a sporting good store. They charge more b/c most people go there to buy one and they can get away w/higher prices. Instead try Home Depot or Lowe's (about $40). This way you'll also have it on hand should this ever happen again in the future. Or you could donate the trap to the Humane Society then use it as a 100% tax write off.

Make a decision. Is the cat's life worth the $80 it will take for you to drop it off at the humane society? It's not much, considering it will find a great home and be a loved house pet. It sounds like a very sweet cat if it's meowing and pleading to be taken in. It would be a waste to kill it.

Animal abuse is illegal, and bashing a dog's head in, or hurting any animal for that matter is mean.
Maybe calling other shelters and things like that could help you stop the cat from bothering you.

Doesn't your town have an animal control number you can call? Just say there's a feral cat outside your home that keeps trying to attack your dog every time you let him out.

Try contacting other non-profit groups.... pets without parents, pet connection, and check with your local pet-smart for other shelters. Also check the A.S.P.C.A. for recommend shelters. Pleas don't bash the cats head in. I'm sure it just needs some love. Good luck and please be humane.

Set some food out for him that he can't resist, scoop him up, and take him to the shelter yourself.
