Why can't we just deprive the enemy of an enemy? If we lower all of our defenses, there will be nothing left to attack.

So you would enjoy being a slave? or watching your family killed? or having to do as you are told by conquerers? Do you really think Hitler would have just waved and smiled at us if we lowered our defenses? If we followed that strategy we'd either be speaking german now shouting Heil Fuhrer every day, be under a communistic and oppressive stalinist regime, or be praying to Allah 5 times every day. I prefer having defenses.

"Fighting for peace" is a classic oxymoron.

The alternative you describe could be accurately characterized as "committing suicide for peace."

I agree...imagine if on September 11th the government of the U.S. said..."we forgive you, you are wrong, but we will not retaliate" What a dfferent world we would be in right now.
