Last Friday, the Illinois state Senate approved a resolution that would make the first week in February the official "Oprah Winfrey Week". I could not believe it. Sure she has made a lot of humanitarian donations, but personally, I don't think think she deserves to have a week named in her honor. That kind of honor should go to someone more deserving...someone WITH integrity who does not launch a publicity campaign every time they "do a good deed" just so the whole world will know about it, the way Oprah does.

Oprah just makes donations for publicity, so she can become more popular. People think that she is so great but there are people more deserving; the people who do good for humanity without the need to be seen. Of course, Oprah feels the need to get on national television and make a giant broadcast like "Oh, hey earth, I'm making a donation, look at me, can i please have a round of applause!"

that is one of the dumbest things i have ever heard!she doesnt need it she makes sure she gets recognized for any thing she does.yes she has been generous and kind but hell she can afford to be.its not like she is giving up anything or going without to help any one.oprah makes a lot of money doing television and entertainment thats fine but really she is not curing cancer or performing brain surgery.oprahs success is simple- she was in the right place at the right time! she has no special talents or gifts that warrant such an honor.they are just being a bunch of k iss a sses trying to score points.if oprahs friggin ego gets any more inflated it will enter a room 5 minutes before the rest of her! get real people just k iss her a ss cause she is a billionaire that doesnt mean she is worthy!

I concur. While Oprah may have achieved much, those achievements are really personal achievements, she hasn't made advances in the quality of human life in general. I would she might have decreased the quality of human life, in fact, by bringing us the demon also known as Dr. Phil.
There are much worthier people out there. Besides if Dr. King only gets a day, why does Winfrey deserve a whole week?

Considering the process of making a resolution like proposal, evaluation, deliberation, approval etc. I can say that after all these stages, the state found it out that Oprah really deserves the honor!

It's easy to be considered a "saint" by todays standards when you have more money than God. There are millions more people out there who have absolutely nothing but give of themselves far more than Oprah has ever given, or ever would give. She's a t.v. personality who hit "triple cherries" at the slots and cashed in on all of the gullible (mostly white) women out there who practically want to deify her. She's the modern day P.T. Barnum who stated, "There's a sucker born every minute."
