Ok, I have this pc and I was putting in a new video card. "and yes I have tried other pci devices!" Anyway. The fan on the card turns on, seems like it is working perfectly fine however... the monitor stays blank black.
The monitor DOES work with the onboard, What is the problem?
Yes, I have tried the other slots also.
Thanks!

Have you tried going into the system BIOS and changing the primary video adapter from on-board to the PCI slot? If not, plug the monitor back into the onboard video and get into the BIOS by either pressing F2 or DEL. It also may be F1 or something else depending on your PC. Just watch for it when you first start you PC. It will tell you what to press to get into the setup.

http://www.fonerbooks.com/video.htm
Will extract relevant paragraphs ( short).
With the monitor working ( with onboard adapter)
....... start/control Panel/Display Properties/ settings.
From here you check what is the problem display adapter make. ( video card)listed. Did you load the correct drivers.?
In Device Manager do you get the new one listed with or without yellow mark ?
Disconnect other hardware connected to computer . say printer/ webcam/dvd/cd combo/extra harddisk etc. Idea is to reduce the load on the SMPS supply.
Please go the web site. Just a sample extract.

Do you hear a string of beeps? Healthy PCs should beep once or twice when they are turned on and pass their Power On Self Test (POST) routine. While different BIOS manufacturers use different beep codes to identify failures, a repeating string of beeps (three or nine in a row) is a common indicator of video card failure.

Check the power requirements and make sure that the card is seated in all the way, try putting in the old video card to make sure that things are working and follow instructions exactly on install once you reinstall new video card. Make sure you plug in the monitor.

Sounds like the video card is busted?... if you have a friend borrow his card and see what happens. Also try to put it in all the other slots, as well as other slots in other computers.

You need to set the primary video adapter in the BIOS to PCI.

Are you familiar with the BIOS at all? If not, bring it to one of the smaller repair shops in the area and offer them $5 to do it for you.

That happened to me once.
Check your power requirements.
If the card requires 300W and your UPS fournishes 300W or less, change it.
