All actors are hired to "serve" the director's vision of the play.

Theoretically, the director should be serving the text, but the vision of how that is to be realized is her or his province.

I have frequently been called upon to do things that I didn't think were quite in line with my understanding of the text, but as Stanislavski said, the actor must kill the director within. It doesn't mean that NONE of the actor's ideas are considerable, and certainly they will form part of the production, but the primary duty of the actor is to follow the director's direction.

Well, the actors serve the play. They are it's instruments. Each character, no matter how insignificant their part seems, serves the play in some capacity.

What do you mean by serve? Actors perform they don't serve. It's not a waiter job!

there are always people who help you because they are your friends, and there's people who are paid for serving. They help with makeup, customs, hairdo, ... these are called assistants, honey.
good luck in your report!
