okay... in the finale, why did nathan petrelli have to go with peter to explode.. he couldve flown himself up and no one would have died... and the explosion would have been bigger than what it was, judging it based on the future of what the world looked like... WHY IS THIS?

I believe that Peter was putting all of his energy into not blowing up. He couldn't fly on his own.
Nathan couldn't have dropped Peter into the ocean. Sure, they both would have lived but that would have caused massive tidal waves all over the place, no matter where he was dropped.
I think that the reason the explosion looked smaller than expected was because we have no idea how high they flew.
In short, Nathan died so Peter could live.

I was wondering the same thing. Mostly, I think it is to show that Nathan is making a turn towards good, and siding with his brother. Up until then, he was in a sort of grey area - you really couldn't tell what side he was on.
I doubt he's actually dead. I'm sure he will be back next season. They're going to have Hiro keep going back in time until they set everything right, and save the world.

True, His brother could have drop him in the ocean and nobody would've of died, So I don't know. The show is good and all but it does tend too have alot of plot hole. But it a good show till the 4400 return this Summer.

because peter could not control the bomb thing and flying at the same time . therefore he needed nathan to fly him up and get rid of the bomb .
