Proceeded to rip up the carpet or rewire a room, etc? I am forever doing that kind of thing and usually my husband has a cow but this evening I decided to redesign the closet and ripped up the carpet to expose the hardwood floors in the bedroom and all he said was "Let me know if you need any help"! Would you be insulted or offer to keep the coffee going and clean up after her?

I was just kidding about the coffee and picking up after me. I used to help my dad on his projects and I learned some on my own. Sometimes my husband gets pretty upset...I have also been known to remove trees while he is out of town...I pay for my own supplies, don't ask for help and clean up after myself. I have recently been teaching my daughter some of it. And I actually am thinking about knocking down a wall. How can you tell if it is a supporting wall? Thanks

I'd be rather impressed and go off and prepare a three-course dinner to share with you. Let me know if you're ever coming to Australia--I'll have all the tools ready!
As to supporting walls, you can climb into the roof space and you'll see where the timbers supporting the roof frame meet the wall frames. Ideally, if there's any doubt find a friendly builder who'll have a look for you.

I don't think I'd be truly upset. Exasperated maybe in a sort of "what, another project?" kind of way but not actually angry. As long as the money was available I can't see why it would bother me though I might get tired of the mess that comes with such jobs. I certainly wouldn't be upset about my wife doing them if that's what she enjoys.

Honestly, I would probably be right there helping out with the project. If, for whatever reason I wasn't, then I would do the clean up if the job itself was obviously hard work. If the job was some minor little fix it type deal that wasn't difficult and had no real clean up then I would probably just stay out of her way and maybe prepare a meal for her.

No --- do what you want -- but 1. finish the job and 2. Clean up your own mess - you made it. I (the guy) will keep you company if you like. I'll even bring you a beer. If you rock it out with a new Home&Garden looking room, closet, kitchen whatever, I'll take you to dinner. But you clean up your own mess.

I say go for it! But let me know if you are going to tear out walls or something. And by the way the hedges need a little trim and the grass.......... :-)
