depends, you can have alot of memory but xp only supports 4 gb or 8, pretty sure 4, i think, and also it would be useless if you have 4 gb and only use ur computer for internet, people wiht 4 gb usually are playing games
and if you have the more than ur computer supports then it just doesnt get used or something will pop up when you start your computer saying too much memory

There is such thing as overkill. You probably wouldn't get much benefit by having the maximum amt. of RAM that your motherboard could handle. Autocad type programs benefit from an ample amt. of memory...but for general computer use...wouldn't recommend wasting your money as it's nothing but overkill.I hope this helps your question.Have a nice day.♥

no their is not such thing as 2 much, its ju8st how much the motherboard can hold but u don't need to buy more than 2gb. of memory if ur a standard gamer/ general computer user. No 1 needs 4gb. unless u do high encoding, not even if u have multiply games open.

Yes. If you put over the limited of what the motherboard can handle, you will experience issues with your desktop.

Yes -

XP has a 3GB limit (in 32-bit) that can be extended to 4GB using PAE (Physical Address Extension). 64-bit has a much higher limit (128 GB or something).

All motherboards have a maximum amount of RAM that can be installed, as well as size limitations. Actually, more than you use is too much.

no.. i mean not 'too much'..

it may have memory that is unneccesary and that isn't worth the money.. but besides your wallet, it's not going to hurt anything...
