Numerically, Bonds and Ruth are the two best players ever. Ruth has the better career numbers, Bonds has the superior peak.

Baseball Prospectus did a very good study comparing these two men - And came to the conclusion that Bonds was the better hitter and fielder, but Ruth's pitching put's him over the top. Of course, this was prior to 2006, and 2007, so Bonds may have caught up.

I'd take them both.

Bonds is a great player and all but i'm gonna go with Babe Ruth. One, he was the crowds favorite and would keep the team pumped up and enthusiastic. He also hit a lot of HRs off of many pitchers that we think may be the best of all time. One bad thing about "The Babe" is that he probably wasn't on most of the Umpires best sides. I mean out of 22 seasons, "The Great Bambino" hit 30+ HRs and 100+ RBIs in 13 of those. He may not be the fastest guy on the basepaths, but this guy could get on base and score runs. This guy was just a great hitter, and that's why I would want him on my team.

Current day, without question Barry Bonds. He's far superior as far as an athlete goes. Babe was the man in his "time". Different place and time. Conversely, Bonds still would have been able to dominate in in Babe's era. I ask the question to you... You have 1st pick of the all time team, and your choices are.......
1. Babe Ruth
2. Barry Bonds
3. Alex Rodriguez
4. Albert Pujols
5. Joe DiMaggio
6. Nolan Ryan
7. Pete Rose
8. Micky Mantle
9. Willie Mays
10. Bob Gibson

Who would you pick?

Thanks

Babe Ruth for one reason, the most powerful weapon that no current day team possess is a power hitting pitcher. Kip Wells and Dontrelle Willis are the only pitchers in the game today with decent hitting skills. With Bonds being where he is in his career, there is just no where to put him cause of his speed and effort. Babe Ruth for the pitcher-hitter combo.

Barry Bonds. I would rather have him because he has more home runs than babe ruth. Bonds has hit home runs during a pitchers era. Where strikeouts have been on the rise since 2001. Currently in 2007 the strikeout rate for batters is 12.67. Back then when Ruth played, pitchers were not as dominant.

normalize the stats - Bonds grew to become into super, yet he does not carry a candle to Ruth. The Babe hit fifty 4 hrs in 1920 - the subsequent optimal had 19! He hit fifty 9 in 1921, next optimal grew to become into 24. profession sensible, Ruth hit .342 with a .474 OBP and .690 SLP - Bonds grew to become into .298/.444/.607. If Ruth performed his entire profession interior the stay ball era and as a hitter (wasted 1914-1918 as a hitter) he could have hit (definitely) yet another a hundred and fifty or extra HRs. that's in basic terms no longer even close, and that i'm no longer even which incorporates the suspicious nature of Bonds profession.

Bonds is almost 43 with dodgy legs, but Ruth has been dead for some 59 years. I gotta figure Barry's gonna hit better.

Peak? Probably Ruth purely as an outfielder on defense, but it'd be a close call.

Babe Ruth. Barry Bonds should be ban for life and not allowed in the hall of fame.
