I think so. While the founding fathers had to deal with the big state/little state issue, they could not see the huge numbers concentrated on the four coasts of the USA. Rural industry is just as important as urban industry to the whole but by nature, rural industry is land intensive so fewer people can live there. My belief is to fix this, every county should be assigned one vote, every small city one vote, medium city two votes, and large city three votes to be determined by local majorities. That would end gerrymandering and give rural folks an even playing field.

Yes it needs to be changed. Right off the top the electoral college should go. Next, make the candidates use their own funds, not those given by big business that will expect a return on their investment. And finally, we don't need all this B.S. starting already. It is a year and a half from the election, do we really need to hear these morons bad mouthing each other for another 18 months? Not to mention that most of the candidates are people who are already elected officials. At this point they should be more concerned about doing the job they were elected to do rather than using their constituants time to further their personal career. I say give the parties 2 months to do their primaries and decide on their candidate. Then, say six months of active campaigning before the election. Is anyone really going to remember these debates and stuff 18 months from now? And, are the debates that go on in the next 18 months really going to be any different?

Interesting question!

Our two party system (while faulty) is still the best the world has to offer. The 3rd and 4th party candidates (while they mean well) only tend to dirty the waters. Leaving the clearer waters as the leaders (which they truly are not).

Our two party system is not what it was meant to be. Like cockroaches invading a New York apartment building, Big Money has invaded our voting system.

Our honest votes no longer count as was intended. Recently proved with the Florida counts and George W.

America has been raped and yet we can do nothing???

So, in answer to your question - Yes! Our system of electing our leaders needs overhauling - BIG-time!

And yet, what we have is still the very best in the modern world. So SAD!

Time to create a new standard or time to step back in time and honor what our founders intended?

Yup, Yup!

For the Presidential election in the United States—

The Electoral College should be disbanded. It ensures that the American people don't truly choose their leader. There is no uniformity among the states in choosing electors, so it is very easy for ruling parties to claim these key positions. The Electoral College is very vulnerable to partisan politics, in other words.

In order to change this, we would need an amendment to the Constitution. In order to get an amendment to the Constitution, Congress has to pass the legislation by 2/3. (Article 5)

However, almost all of Congress is comprised by partisan individuals, so they have have a stake in maintaining the status quo.

Also, the way election runs are funded should simply stop. That parties raise money for their candidates means that the more powerful parties get more of it, to promote their candidate. Either no one should get election run funding, or they all should have equal funding to run for election.

As it stands, candidates with lot of money can buy ads and travel, to become known to voters. This hurts minor party candidates' chances of becoming known to the public, because they generally don't have enough money to buy a lot of ads and travel. AND, those candidates that travel to promote themselves get media coverage, too.

The Presidential Election should change, especially. But, the funding methods for all elections should change, too.

suited right here in Ohio, we've one individual who has purely registered to vote 17 circumstances, through "Acorn", so purely how obtainable do you want it to be ? What we choose if a thank you to verify the electorate registration for accuracy on the time of balloting, and any caught cheating might desire to be at present day jailed. stop the early balloting as is now happening, and stop the prepare of absentee ballots aside from those extremely in choose, like those with the two a actual incapacity or those that have extremely no thank you to make it to the polls. Too many opportunities to cheat. start up with making anybody carry a federal electorate card, which may well be checked for accuracy and no person shall vote with out it. Have all ballots checked in a various district than solid, as a fashion to attempt and forestall cheating. Too many elections have been in touch in pollrigging and outright cheating. that's a sorry state of afairs while a guy caught registering his cat is sentenced to 3 years, and a guy caught registering under 2 diverse names gets a slap on the wrist and probation.

Get rid of the electoral college. Elect the President by popular vote. Hold a runoff if no one gets 50% in the election.

I think the worst part of our system nowadays, is the fact that our government is run by the rich, for the rich, and "to hell with the rest" attitude. Besides, modern American politicians never tell you their views on any issue, they just try to bombard the media with accusations of their opponents views. With no regard as to any hint of truth in anything that spews from their mouths.

Yeah, it's a little weird that 51% of us can tell the other 49% how it's gonna be.
