I recommend Hawaii because there is a greater variety of different type activities. I also recommend going to Maui instead of Oahu/Waikiki. Both Hawaii and Virgin islands have great beaches and water. Hawaii beaches are much prettier than St Thomas (St John has the prettier beach than St. Thomas). In Hawaii you can go to the Arizona Memorial, go to a luau, watch hula shows, on Maui you can do a 35 mile downhill bike ride (
http://www.mauidownhill.com/) that is best described as super fantastic. In Hawaii you can snorkel and scuba if that's your thing, play golf, go horse back riding, go hiking in Diamond Head or other parks, or just enjoy the water. If you are a surfer, or wind surfer, or kite boarder Hawaii is the place with big waves and wind. You will not find that in St Thomas.

Depends a lot on where you are from. The airplane trip can take a long long time to get to Hawaii, depending on where you are from. Example: 12 hours non stop from Atlanta, Georgia to Honolulu. That's a LONG way on an airplane. Virgin Islands are a lot closer if you live on the East Coast. You can probably also drink all you want in the Virgin Islands, no matter how old you are. Some places might turn you down if you are young, but just look around, you'll find a place... they are not very strict there at all. But all in all, for TEENAGERS, I would recommend Hawaii. Much more to do there.

The Virgin Islands are so much better. Hawaii is beautiful and all...but the going to any of the islands in USVI or even BVI is way better. You can go to St. John, which has all of the really cool local shops and places to walk around, not to mention really great places to eat. One place that you have to go to is The Baths, which is on the south westers side on Virgin Gorda (BVI). Its only a short boat trip betweem the two islands and there is soo much to do there. Hope you choose the Virgin Islands!

I would never recommend Hawaii ... the flight is super long (from the east coast). You get off the plane in Oahu and Waikiki is dismally disappointing. It is extremely overcrowded and overpriced. There is a McDonalds on every corner .. Home Depots .. Lowes ... why leave the mainland?????? If that's what you want, go to Miami.

I love the Virgin Islands .. not as congested as Oahu. Must easier to reach from the east coast, too. Another plus, time zones are similar.
