First, they pair up with you when you come through the door and help you out. If you are interested in purchasing a certain item at that time, they can get you all taken care of right there. If you are not interested in purchasing at the time, they may say something along the lines of "Here's my card. Come back and see me when you are ready to buy" or "Here's my card (or name). Please ask for me next time in."

It's called "closing the sale". A good salesman sells his product and knows how to bring the sales "pitch" to a close so his customer needs to make a decision. If he has done a good job, he will get the "sale". by getting his customer to decide he "needs" to buy it.. ...then if he has a product that has to be re-purchased again, later....if he has built a good customer related base, the customer will just call up and re-order.

My son-in-law is a pro at this...His customers love him!
