People like different things, I am sure if you wrote everything you liked somewhere out there somebody would say to like that would be stupid. When a person likes something it is their own personal taste. I don't like American Idol, but I don't think that makes it a stupid show, just not what I like.

I am not a follower but just watch bits and pieces but I think people like it because:-
1) The initial audition stage is a story of humour and laughter, beating the Funniest American Home Video and it's Original.
2) The elimination stage is a story of the dreams, sweat, tears and success.
3) The last few stages show the birth of a potential star who may walk the hall of fame and they want to be part of it.
4) American democracy means a chance to vote for the one who should SINGS to them. (unlike republicans who PREACHES them,)

The majority of the public would not say that American Idol is stupid. More people vote for the best singer than they do for president.

I feel that people do not have much to do at night so they get caught up in reality television. I think that their lives are boring or they wish that it was them on the screen. I feel that a lot of people like to see what is going on in peoples lives from a distance. I think that people should turn off their television sets and go for a walk instead of making the television executives rich.

I was asking myself that same question....
Honestly the thing should die already. AI eats up the really good television shows on other networks like "Friday Night Lights" etc. It's starting to lose it's momentum though. This is a pretty low rating season.
