You CAN use a bowl, but unless you are really good with fish keeping and really know bettas AND are willing to change 100% of the water every other day, no missed days or slacking off, you really don't want to try keeping one in a bowl.

Your betta can comfortably live out his entire life in a bowl. Bettas have what is called a labyrinth in their body, very similar to lungs, which means that they come to the surface and breathe air rather than take it through the water. This is why they don't need a tank or filter or aerator. Where they live in the wild they are in mud puddles and rice paddies where the water is sometimes very dirty, almost dried up, and has very little air in it. They're a hardy fish and they LIKE the small space. It's less territory to defend and they don't feel as intimidated.
All you need is a little bowl, some water conditioner, and food. Pellet food is easiest because you can measure what the fish eats. 3-4 pellets a day is fine, any more than that and the fish can become constipated or overweight and wont live as long. You should change about 1/4 of the water one time a week and all but a little bit of it once a month. That's really about it.
Just don't put 2 together, even if you get a boy and girl the boy will kill the girl.
Let me know if you have any other questions!

Bowls will work....And unlike some of the other answers...You can put a boy and girl toghether, but only for a short time, to breed....After she is bred however...He will try to kill her or she will try to kill him....And go to Wal-Mart...They have a tank that comes in purple, blue, green, and red...That only cost about $16-$18...I had to buy my own betta and tank....the tank is about 2 gallons....or you could use a glass vase and put a water lily or some other flower in it...They can feed off of the roots or you can still feed them....We did that with my last betta and though some may disagree...We found that it lived longer...But you can do whatever you want...A bowl will work...

I would say if your get a bigger bowl, it will be better for your betta rather than a small bowl. If you have had experine with fish, then, you should be fine. At least clean the bowl once a week and change the water, slowly acclimate your fish!!!!

you should be ok,yet actually there's a 3stage breeding tank for,Betta's that are made for them so the eggs will in basic terms drop down the small hatchery area after which you will place the,Betta's back into the 10Gallon and with a bit of luck by way of fact there'll on no account be any eggs interior the 10Gallon the male shouldn't kill the female then yet,it extremely is a possiblity he could by way of fact they have been breeding and all.additionally by way of fact you have a Dragon Goby in that tank too and in case you left them the two to reproduce in there and each and all of the male could get into desirous to kill by way of fact the Dragon Goby's are nocturnal and in basic terms at evening the Dragon Goby won't comprehend what hit it or kill it so i could try this 3 point breeding tank and you'd be stable to flow

They CAN live in bowls.
But do much better with a filter and heater.
