White sharks love to attack from below and from angles. They pack amazing speed and force on a strong drive and they depend on that initial attack/kill for food. Do not get me wrong, they will not give up on a good chase... but that first strike is key.

The problem is white sharks are so large they do not have the ability to turn on prey on a chase like many of the smaller sharks. For example, look at how fast and easy it is for something like a seal is in the water. The shark has the speed, size and power... but because they cannot turn as fast it makes it much more complicated to win a chase. Nine times out of ten in a chase the shark will only win if the prey makes a mistake.

There have been recorded video cases where some seals have learned as long as they stay at the tail of the shark that soon into the chase the shark will give up and move on.

To add there have also been cases where if the shark does not kill the prey on the first strike but makes contact, the shark will just follow the prey and wait till it either passes out or dies from blood loss.

Of course this really only works with seals and fish. If the shark is hunting a turtle or whale it becomes less of an issue.

Sharp teeth, fast swimmers, good sense of smell, and good eye sight, get it?
