In my car, I have light-colored upholstery. It has amazed me that there are things that stained the upholstery that I never thought would. I have 'grease-like' spots where I had placed my office work bag on the back seat, something that isn't greasy. And the type of grease I'm referring to is the light grease, not car grease. Also, a jug of water tipped over on my back seat and dripped out, and that dried up just fine--however, now there's a friggin' water mark stain thing where the water had slowly leaked out.

Are there any safe car upholstery cleaners that are proven to work? I tend to like to use non-toxic or organic cleaners so any suggestions on those sorts of cleaners would be greatly appreciated. I'm deathly afraid to try something out, just to have it screw up the interior even worse--I am really trying to keep this car in nice shape!

Hey Troll, here's an old trick we used back in the day on cloth seats at the Cadillac dealership detail shop. We used laquer thinner to clean any grease (french fries and even real oil) and best of all water stains. the cheap laquer thinner works GREAT!!!!Remember though it is flammable but it dries real fast. Just soak a rag with it and wipe. Check around at Lowes or even your corner hardware store or go to an auto paint store and get it. It also does wonders on white vinyl tops

Any upholstery cleaner you can find at an auto parts store, or at places like target, walmart, and shopko (automotive section) will work fine.
