There are a lot of things you can use if you're out of shaving cream. I actually never use shaving cream anymore. Instead, I usually just lather body wash on my legs. Hair conditioner works too. I also know some people who use lotion, but for me, lotion is too thick and can sort of clog the razor blades.
I really haven't found that using body wash instead of shaving cream causes any additional drying of the skin. It just doesn't provide as much blade protection as cream--but, if you've been shaving for a long time, you probably don't need too much protection anyway, unless you're really careless. If you have problems with overdrying after shaving, you can try putting a little baby oil all over your legs afterward, or some non-irritating lotion (something that's unscented). Good luck!

Baby Oil, definitely. Keeps your legs smooth and moisturizes at the same time. I use it whenever I'm out of shaving cream.

I use body wash instead of bar soap, and that works just fine as shaving cream. All shaving cream is is whipped soap, anyway.

A moisturizing body wash works great.
It helps keep those little hairs wet and lubricates your legs while you're shaving. When you finish and rinse off your legs are silky smooth.

Conditioner is great. Smooth shave and it doesn't dry your skin out like soap does.
Always moisturise afterwards though:)

A thick creamy moisturizing facial cleanser should work.
Put some baby oil in the water, that'll help soften the hair.
