pretty much nothing, you've got to hit rock bottom before you know yourself

There are a whole lot of other areas of importance in a person's life, besides their fighting ability. You can know a whole lot of things about yourself, including that you don't know whether or not you can fight. You can know things that you like and dislike. You can know what your spiritual beliefs are. You can know where you do have definite talents. Say you know you can play a bad-*** guitar. So I'd say there is a lot one can know about oneself even if they've never been in a fight. Believe me finding out you can or can't is no fun at all, especially these days when people will kill you with no problem.

You know that you don't do things that get you into fights. The only thing you learn from being in a fight is how to hurt someone or be hurt by someone.

Those with true power have no need prove themselves to anyone, so fighting is not something they do unless all other options have failed.

But make no mistake, you must always be ready to stand up for what you believe in. If that means fighting for it, then so be it.

Are you talking mental or physical fight? You can know quite a bit about yourself without being in a fight, but I agree that you learn a lot more once you're in a big one.

It's funny how after a fight the person you fought with treats you differently. It's like they've seen your other side and it freaked them out a bit.

How much would you know about yourself if you HAVE been in one? Being brave or strong doesn't mean you can take a hit, or dish it out.
