realizing that "this too will pass"
maybe going to some 'inspirational' place location that's fairly nearby and taking in teh view
talking to a trusted friend
oddly enough, sometimes gettting into an ugly chore of doing a good clean-up job on something that really needs it .. sometimes this helps in some weird way
taking a long walk (with water bottle)
looking into a pets eyes and trying to empathise
when NOTHING else seems to help, you can maybe even do a spiritual "cheat" and realize that you don't live in Darfur and life itself isn't really too bad, even if the present circumstances aren't all they could be
Sometimes sleep and meaningful dream for understanding will help ... even nightmares can be a reminder that options exist
hang in there kid ... you can make it

A lot depends on your personality. If you're outgoing, try to get with a friend and go somewhere in public like dinner, or just go driving around your hometown, especially if the sun is out. You can get sunshine while in the car and it will make you feel better. When you get home your house will look better to you. If you're not a very outgoing person, just stay home and meditate or watch a favorite movie and have a good snack to eat while watching it. That's what I do. The sad feeling will pass and you will have better days and if they outnumber the sad days, you'll be okay.

Sunshine. If I'm down, I get in my car, put on a great cd, and drive. I feel much better afterward.
