Perfectly normal. At two months, its too early for him to be selectively reaching out to grab something. It is normal for him to grab at something that touches his hand (like hair), but not to make an effort to get something. At this age they lack the hand/eye coordination. That's more like what you'd expect from a 4 - 5 month old.

My daugther is 6 months old. She just started grabbing at items last month. She JUST turned 6 months. They should not be grabbing at items that are put in front of them at 2 months. SOMETIMES some babies do things a little faster than others, but they don't usually start grabbing at things they want til around 5 or 6 months.
I don't know what your pediatrician does, but every time my baby went to the doctor they would ask if she's doing "this or that". So if they haven't asked if he's doing it, he's probably not supposed to be yet.
Actually, I have a "wheel" that Nestle sent me on "milestones" for baby in the 1st 6 months...and they have the reaching for toys in the 5 month category.
So don't fret....he's not ready yet. But if you wanna know what you should be expecting from him right now....I'll tell you what my Nestle milestones wheel says:
At 2 months:
You could: Speak in a higher pitched tone to stimulate babies hearing, and read simple books outloud to baby everyday to encourage language development.
Physical milestones: Rolls over in one direction, stretches legs and kicks while lying down, moves head from side to side while lying on tummy, can hold head up for a few seconds, moves arms and legs smoothly in a "cycling" motion.
Cognitive milestones: Says "ooh" and "aah", eyes track objects moving in air, focuses on small objects, studies hand movements, looks for source of sounds.
Social milestones: Responds to loud sounds with quiet, crying, or acting startled; smiles or coos when you smile, talk, or play; recognizes your voice; blows bubbles.
Sorry it was so long. Hopefully that helps you. Don't expect him to do too much at 2 months...the fun stuff'll happen sooner than you realize and he'll be crawling across the floor putting things in his mouth you never thought anyone would and all kinds of stuff. LOL

Don't worry. Every child grows at different rates. My son didn't start grabbing items until he was 3 1/2 months.

My baby didnt grab for items until she was three months, even then she was swatting at them.
Added:
people that are writing that it is aroung 5 months are probably right, my daughters fine motor skills are developing first. She is clapping now and waving, but she was really late at rolling over and hasnt started crawling yet at 9 months.

If he is learning really early then yes, he should be grabbing things. He is just now able to see your face clearly much less, distinguish items to grab. Be patient, he will get there. Just remember that all kids learn and grow at different rates and just b/c he is not doing something today does not mean that he won't tomorrow! Good Luck
