with the high percentage of divorces in the last 30 years , don't you think is time to change how marriages work. is unrealistic to expect both men /women to have sex with only one person the rest of your life. So I would like to propose that every 2 years you renew your wedding license. that would make more sense and maybe wedding would last longer.

Lol! That's hilarious! Not really a bad idea either...
And by renew, you mean that you just remarry the same person if that is what you choose? Sort of like driver's licenses?! If you change your mind you get out of it scott free? And if you decide to renew your vows you have to stay together until the next 2 years renewal date?! And how about you can lose points off of your marriage license from doing stupid things!?! Sounds like a winner idea to me! LoL! :-)

A wedding is not a re-enactable theater performance. You get one wedding per marriage. If a wedding is to be taken seriously, it should Actually Be HAPPENING. It would be in poor taste to invite guests to "watch re-runs". I mean, is that really the message you want to put out there? That you feel your real wedding was "lacking" in some way? It was THAT WEDDING that made you a married couple! Does that not mean anything to you? Or what-- did you 2 not "mean" your vows the first time, just because the event was not FANCY enough?! Just because your wedding was a simple one does not make your marriage any less real, or your vows any less solemn. Celebrate your anniversary some other way, like with a formal Anniversary Banquet, or Dinner-Dance (at which you can wear formalwear, and even have a tiered cake! maybe not too different from a reception, and it would be much more appropriate). (If, for religious reasons, you NEED to renew your vows because soemeone strayed form the marriage or you have simply been having a rough timte together, then that is something private or semi-private that you do with your officiant and possibly immediate family. You do not invite guests to that type of vow renewal.)

I think it's silly to generalize with people. For some people -myself included- it's very realistic for them to be faithful to one person for a lifetime. For others- I have a feeling you fall in this category- it's not. That could be b/c of a variety of issues, but don't assume the world has your problems too. Marriage vows are 'until death'- would you change them to 'for 2 yrs'? Why is your driving licence valid longer than this proposed marriage licence? If a couple is unhappily married, they'll get divorced- they don't need for their marriage to just run out of time. This would make divorce easier, not marriage.

And what would happen if i chose NOT to renew? Is the marriage now defunct? Can I legally walk away from responsibilities?

You need to really think this out

If one doesn't like the idea of being with one person for the rest of their life, one doesn't have to get married. There's no need for the "renewable marriage", it defeats the purpose. It's not going to hurt you any less if your wife decides to not "renew" her marriage to you as opposed to telling you she wants to leave; don't be silly.

my thought, almost exactly! I have felt that way for the last 30 years. My idea is 'seven years and out' If at the end of seven years, both parties want to renew then fine. If not, it's over.

What would be the point of marriage at that point?? Don't the vows say "till death do us part"? My ex and I tried something similar and we were done in 5 years (I was tired of the fact that he couldn't keep it in his pants no matter who was around).
