I have windows XP (I don't know if that matters) and after I turned my computer on today and logged on when my screen came up it was blank. All of my icons and my start button are gone. I have tried to restart it several times, and I have checked and everything is plugged in alright. How do I get my icons back?

Just right click > View > Make sure 'Show Desktop Icons' is checked.

And look at the bottom of the screen, are you sure that you haven't accidentally dragged the task bar down out of view?

Perhaps one of your friends tried pulling a fast one on you...

You've got a few options:

1. Restore them from the recycle bin
2. Restore them from backup
3. Re-create them

Though if your START button is gone and you haven't just dragged the bar down, then you've probably been infected by Microsoft malware. Try running a full scan using your anti-virus software.

i have an idea and i dont know maybe it will help you. press ctrl+alt+del and then choose new task from the applications tap after clicking the new task button write explorer. i guess that may help. Also try checking your antivirus that may be a virus or a Trojan btw

ctrl+alt+delete, new task button, explorer.exe, if this does not work: ctrl+alt+delete, processes tab, look for explorer.exe then click it and then click end task, then do the above step.

If that does not work:

ctrl+alt+delete, users tab, click your user, log out, repete if nessary

if none of the above works,

reboot, but tap f8 until a screen comes up asing you how you want to boot, select safe mode. then do a system restore

Try starting in Safe-Mode and do a system restore.

Start PC, press F8 until you see a menu, choose Safe-Mode
