I took the May 5th SAT Reasoning Test too...
I got a 1745, and I'm really mad. I've been trying
to figure out if that score is good enough.
According to Collegeboard.com, you're within the range UC Davis looks for:

Middle 50% of First-Year Students

SAT Critical Reading: 490 - 620
SAT Math: 540 - 660
SAT Writing: 500 - 630

Hopefully that helps. I've been worried all day about retaking it, but I don't know if that's possible. I'm taking the June 2nd Subject Test as well, though.

Anyway. I've heard that a lot of colleges don't stress the writing portion too much, considering it's new. I also know that they don't really consider your total score as much as they do each individual one. I don't know if that helps, sorry...

Collegeboard has a lot of information on the scores that different colleges look for. Just search for the college you want, and click on "SAT, AP, CLEP" right under "Admissions."

Remember that your GPA, extracurricular activities, and college admissions essay means a lot in addition to the SAT scores. I know many people who did horrible on their first SAT, and then improved by a few hundred points the second time around, and they were accepted into good colleges.

Good luck.

You don't seem very sure of yourself about anything. You need to sit back and decide what you want to do in the future and then, where you should go to accomplish your goals.

You definitely need to retake the SAT, but your scores aren't going to get any better unless you do some preparation first. Does your school offer courses in taking the SAT? How about your library (the place with the books, remember)? In any case if there are no courses available in your area, why not have a good student tutor you in exchange for something you can do that he/she can't do.

Most importantly: you need to get your life in shape and make some mature decisions. Time is running out, so don't delay.

Depends, look at the average SAT scores of students that attend the school you might want to go to for undergraduate studies. State universities are more lenient. For universities in California like UC's you must score at least 680 on writing to pass the first level of English I believe. But yes, take it again since the test is just oh so fun. Yeah ok sarcasm...

Good luck any way :D

Not really--definitely re-take it. Try and aim for at least one 600!
