Yes, I know the movie very well. It was a Jim Henson movie that came out in 1982. It was my favorite movie (besides E.T.) when I was 14, and I must have gone to see it at the theaters 50 times! Yes, most of the creatures in it are pretty ugly and scary for small children, but because it completely lacks any human characters, it has an other-worldly feel. I love the themes of love, hope and sacrifice between Jen and Kira (the main two characters). I think it's a great movie.

The main character was a Gelfling and he was on a quest to restore a shard to the Dark Crystal. The film was done by Jim Henson studios in the '80s and is amazingly fun to watch today. Amazingly cheap to buy on DVD, too. Ask at your local Blockbuster, Borders or even walmart.

Yep by Jim Henson. Classic childrens movie with amazing detail even down to the backgroud creatures!
You can by it on DVD on E-Bay. Well worth it! It has some brilliant extras including character and costume design, concept sketches and the origin of the story.

Yes. The previous answers covered all of the questions pretty well. However, David Bowie was not in it. There were no non-puppets in it. The David Bowie movie people are probably thinking of is Labyrinth, which also had a lot of Henson puppets.

Yeah... it was a Jim Henson film. I've seen it at different video stores. Labyrinth is another great Jim Henson film made in the 80s.

it was a childrens movie but it did very good business overseas.
Jim hansen wrote it and also did some of the voices in the movie (jen and some other onces).
you can find some more info on the www.imdb.com site.
