Here's the scenario:

I have 50 documents that take .00153 milliseconds to be processed. How much time would it take to process 1000 documents?

and i dont want just the answer, if you can give an explanation as to how you got the answer or point me to where i can learn more, that would be very much appreciated.

Solve with a proportion:

quantity/time = quantity/time

50/0.00153 = 1000/x

50x = 1000*0.00153

x = 0.0306 milliseconds

If 50 docs take .00153 milliseconds, multiply both numbers by (1000/50) to get the time for 1000 docs.

50 goes into 1000 20 times. then multiply 20x.00153.
