A, but I will modify it to Puerto Rico became a colony of the United States and still is.

The correct answer is A. Puerto Rico remains a territory of the United States to this day.

B is incorrect. Cuba became a protectorate of the United States for some time.

C is incorrect because the PPhillipines became a territory of the US following the war, and remained so until World War II. The Phillipines were occupied by the Japanese Empire throughout most of World War 2.

D Panama was not yet a country at the time of the Spanish War. It was a section of Colombia whose borders were drawn up by Theodore Roosevelt in order to gain a more favorable deal to create the Panam Canal.

A, because the Phillipines did NOT become a Spanish colony, but (temporarily until Filipinos gained independence) a U.S colony. This was due to our foreign policy of imperialism.
