Some cable companies were offering a show called life on mars free on pay per view for a while. If you missed it then, you should definitely check it out.

The plot is something like this, a police detective (Sam Tyler) is in an car accident and wakes up as a cop in 1973. He doesn't know why he's there or what the hell happened.

Meanwhile, his 1973 boss (DCI Gene Hunt) is the most old fashioned, kick ***, take down names later type of cop there is. (Which makes Sam crazy because he's a 21st century kind of detective).

This show does a good job of putting a new spin on the good cop/bad cop dynamic you probably like since you dig 24 and The Wire.

It's also really, really smart and sometimes very, very funny. The humor is similar toe the funny parts of the Sopranos. Largely because the cat who plays Gene Hunt does a fantastic job of playing a character who is all kinds of wrong but who you can't help but love.

It's a BBC show, but I promise it's not girlie. Nothing Jane Austin about it.

It's 2 seasons long. The first season is very good. The second is one of the best I've ever seen of any show.

Check it out.

I you missed it on TV get the first season of West Wing. It's about what happens behind the scenes in the White House.
Where the US President lives and works. There are more series to get if you enjoy it. If you get it, try only watching one episode a night - bet you can't!

Pennies from Heaven, starring Bob Hoskins, bit of an oldie, but superb acting/drama, and has some fabulous music, (if you like 50's style music) there's also some very erotic scenes in there!!
