I'm a big fan of fusion music like hip-hop and blues/country (Dirty Liar by Shinjuku Zulu) and hip-hop and Bollywood/Bhangra (Chaiyya Chaiyya Bollywood Joint featuring Panjabi MC). Both these songs are on iTunes if you're interested.

Can anyone point me to some new songs/bands like these? I really love crazy combos like banjo mixed in with modern music.

"Box the Gnat" by K.I.A. is countrytronica. It's like Tammy Wynette meets Boards of Canada. Or maybe like O Brother meets the Chemical Brothers. (And yes, there's some banjo on it, some of it backwards.)

From the same K.I.A. CD (called "Adieu Shinjuku Zulu") there is a track called "Allelujah" which mixes 17th century choral chants with 21st century dancehall reggae. (But no banjo).

They are also on iTunes.
