Without a doubt if they wanted to they could and the US would do nothing, you seem to be forgeting one thing, that car and I am assuming that you drive or your parents drive you. Takes gas this gas of which over 40% is shippd thru the straight of Hormuz, Iran while having a small Navy could blocade this strategic choke point.

This and were are just about ready to sit down with them and discuss Iraq, I believe one never goes to the negotiating table weak, this way we can ensure that we will not get dictated to.

If they're in international waters like the US Naval ships are, it's legal. No I don't think America has the right. The current debacle is a perfect example.

If they are in international waters, there is nothing we could do about it. It would definitely be OK for them to have a bunch a naval ships in international waters close to the United States as they have a right to be there, just like anyone else.

If not us then who?
Bin Laden? Saddam? Perhaps Castro...
Some things MUST be controlled so that this world can co-exist...If we stop, someone will take our place just off the shores of many places...perhaps someone listed above...perhaps worse...

Lets look at this another way...with great power comes great responsibility...it is our responsibility as the greatest power to look after those with less power and to control those who mean them harm.

When a nation threatens our security through their actions then we do indeed have the right to go into those waters with military vessels. America is one thing. We don't go around threatening nuclear holocaust (Iran actually said they'd destroy Israel+nuclear materials=nuclear holocaust).

Gah, you are obviously one of the worst kind of ignorant self-indulgent Americans....I'm guessing you think Iran might do a better "morality-driven" job if it had the military strength that America does???....

Only a liberal could declare the Iranian government and the US government as moral equivalents.

Have we threatened to "wipe another nation off the map"? Yes, I do think we have the right and we should be prepared to help protect our allies.

ummmm.. I'd rather have naval ships there and rid ourselves of a potential nuclear threat, any day.

Yes.
(You missed out on history.)
During the Cold War, our whole East Coast was covered by dozens of Soviet Ships.
It's legal in International Waters.
(I'm sure that Ahmadinejad appreciates your support.)
