Some libraries have free online books. http://www.pinkmonkey.com has some old books, but not for recreational reading... more plays or older books for school.

There's a few fantastic books at www.freeread.com. In addition to those posted there in their entirety there are numerous links to other sites that contain complete books and works for your enjoyment.

Happy reading!

A good subscription source is Questia.com. They also have methods for doing research that even include doing your bibliography and footnotes/endnotes for you. I've used them for my thesis for my MPH and really like their system.
