No, there is no reliable prenatal testing. I heard about one, but it would only pick up 5% of all cases of autism.

I heard it is very rare to have two children of different gender with autism. So if your friend has two boys with autism, if the baby is a girl, she is probably safe. If the 2 autistic kids are girls, a boy is less likely - at leat in this situation - to be autistic. But that is just the odds. My brother had 4 kids, 2 with autism. And it was a boy AND girl with autism.

I'd say the odds of the next child being autistic would be as much as 1 out of 17 (6%)

At this present time there is NOT a prenatal test for Autism.

But, Autism researchers are currently conducting genetic studies with the goal of developing a prenatal test. Dr. Joseph Buxbaum, who heads the Autism Genome Project at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine, said in an interview posted on MSNBC.com on Feb. 23, 2005, that there could be a prenatal test within 10 years.

so a great way by way of fact the mercury ingredient, i do no longer likely purchase that concept by way of fact if mercury tainted vaccines have been the reason, a great huge type people interior the 24-35 age selection could be substantial autistic information by way of fact in the time of the previous due Nineteen Seventies, 1880s, and 1890s there became extra mercury used as preservatives for childhood vaccines than this era they declare Autism has become an endemic. additionally, to my wisdom, thimerosol (sp) has no longer been utilized in any childhood vaccine by way of fact the previous due 1880s. i think of a baby could be extra apt to become autistic in keeping with this concept with the help of eating tuna two times a week and respiratory city air if mercury is the criminal. I also have a buddy who has an Autistic baby and that i comprehend those father and mom are under pressure, in many situations overwhelmed and choose solutions. As autism is a disorder, it is developed. There is no way to physically tell if a child has autism before birth and they are usually diagnosed 2-3 years into their life.
Docters don't know if it is somehow genetically linked, although many people who have autistic children often have more than one autistic child. However, my mom has 5 children and only one is autistic.

Well, she was pretty unwise to get pregnant again. No, there is no testing available. It is only recently that it was confirmed that autism begins prenatally. There are no identified genes of autism.

Her chances are 75% of having another autistic child if she has already had 2. My cousin's GF had 3 (all by different fathers).

No unfortunately there is no way to determine even if a child will develop autism, so not a chance they can determine a foetus. I hope your friend isn't pregnant since her odds are pretty high of having another one, since it seems to have some sort of familial patterns. At this point in time they have no way to determine what the genetic markers even are, so they haven't even said it s defiantly genetic or higher rates in certain families, or caused by drugs, medications, vaccinations....... Hopefully there will be testing in the not so distant future. There is a LOT of research and studies going on at the present time since this disorder seems to be on the rise.
