I know that like if I were to say "that meal is meant for me" I would just say.. that.. but when I say "that meal is meant for me and Dan" is it grammatically incorrect to say "that meal is meant for Dan and me"?

well I thought it was "me and ___" or "____ and me" because the sentence wouldn't make sense if it was "the meal is meant for I" and I thought that was the general rule

I knew when to use "I" or "me" in a sentence the question was whether it matters the order of "Dan and me" ... like should it be "Dan and me" or "me and Dan".

Dan and me. Correct Usage puts the other person's name first. The way to tell is this. The meal is meant for me or the Meal is meant for Dan would be correct. You would never say The meal was meant for I. Conversely, you would say Dan and I ate the meal. Dan ate the meal, I ate the meal, you would never say Me ate the meal.

I'm not giving Dan any of it , he can go sit on the back, and wait for me to finish

this is what I think...

1. You always put the other person before yourself so it would be Dan and me/I

2. When the action is being done to you it is "Dan and me" when you two are doing the action it is "Dan and I."

Example)
"Dan and I went fishing." (Doing the action)
"Bags of marbles were given to Dan and me." (Action being done to you)

The real question is if you took Dan out of the sentence would it sound correct?

"That meal is meant for I" That does not work.

"Bags of marbles were given to I." or
"Bags of marbles were given to me."

Thisbrit is correct and your rule is correct. It should be "me" and not "I" and putting others first is the way to go. But, I think that reversing "Dan" and "me" is not technically incorrect,.

"Dan and me," because we show deference to the other person and put his/her name before our own.

Not hard really. 'Others go first' was a mantra my mother said to me.

Either way is correct, but common usage puts the other person's name first.
